Coty announced on Monday that it appointed Markus Strobel as its new interim CEO, replacing Sue Nabi. Strobel, a veteran of Procter & Gamble (PG.N), will also serve as Coty’s executive chair. His appointment comes as Coty faces a challenging consumer environment and increased competition in the mass-market beauty sector. Strobel’s leadership aims to help Coty revive demand for its popular beauty brands, including CoverGirl.
Markus Strobel holds an MBA in Marketing & Finance from Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business, where he graduated in 1991. After completing his studies, Strobel joined Procter & Gamble, marking the start of a long career with the company. Over his 33 years at P&G, Strobel held several prominent roles in brand management and general management, particularly in global fine fragrances, luxury fragrances, and Latin America hair care.
One of Strobel’s most notable achievements was revitalizing SK-II, a prestige skincare brand in Asia. As global president of P&G’s SK-II division from 2012 to 2017, Strobel successfully navigated challenges such as sales disruption and weak demand in key markets like China. By focusing on targeted marketing strategies aimed at urban Millennial consumers, he helped SK-II regain its position as a leading brand in the prestige skincare market.
From 2017 to 2024, Strobel led P&G’s global skin and personal care business, overseeing a portfolio that included well-known brands like Pantene, Old Spice, and Olay. His leadership was especially significant during the pandemic years, where the company faced unique challenges. Strobel retired from P&G in August 2024 before taking the helm at Coty.
Coty’s Future Under Strobel’s Leadership
As Coty’s interim CEO, Strobel will be responsible for guiding the company through its current struggles. The beauty giant has been working to strengthen its position in a competitive landscape, focusing on product innovation and marketing strategies. Strobel’s vast experience in the beauty and personal care sectors positions him well to drive Coty’s future growth and brand revival.
