I&M Bank has launched the IMBRISK campaign, which will simplify cross-border transactions across East Africa. This new initiative makes banking easier for customers in Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, and Rwanda, allowing them to access their funds at any I&M Bank branch in the region.

IMBRISK: Simplifying Cross-Border Banking

IMBRISK enables customers to deposit, withdraw, and transfer money at any branch, using local currencies in Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, and Rwanda. Notably, there is no need for multiple accounts. This solution is especially useful for cross-border traders, frequent travelers, and businesses that have faced delays when moving money across borders.

The launch occurred at the Sheraton Hotel in Kampala in November 2025, where I&M Bank unveiled its new leadership. Fiona Magezi, previously Head of Client Servicing at Marsh Uganda, now leads IMBRISK as Managing Director of Olea Uganda.

I&M Bank’s Focus on Regional Integration

As East Africa grows more interconnected, cross-border banking becomes increasingly important. The East African Community (EAC) Common Market Protocol allows free movement of people and goods, making it easier for businesses to operate across borders. IMBRISK fits perfectly with this trend, simplifying the banking experience for a mobile and interconnected population.

Expanding Cross-Border Payments Market

East Africa’s cross-border payments market is expanding rapidly. In 2025, it was valued at USD 329 billion and is projected to reach USD 1 trillion by 2035, driven by mobile money, fintech innovation, and growing intra-African trade. IMBRISK provides a practical solution for managing finances across borders, responding to the increasing demand for seamless transactions.

IMBRISK’s Role in Regional Economic Growth

Regional trade continues to grow. In Q2 2025, merchandise trade within the EAC reached USD 38.2 billion, a 28.4% increase from 2024. Solutions like IMBRISK are crucial for facilitating faster and safer financial transactions, helping businesses respond to the growing demand for efficient trade.

Travel within the region is also increasing, and IMBRISK will allow travelers and businesses to pay for goods, services, and accommodation without needing cash or maintaining multiple bank accounts.

Technology Driving Change in Banking

IMBRISK is part of I&M Bank’s broader strategy to enhance customer experience through technology. The bank aims to streamline financial services and position itself as a leader in East Africa’s evolving digital banking landscape.
